The regional Southeastern Geological Society of America meeting is always a blast. The more local focus and a strong turn out from universities and industry members of the region always brings out local vibes at the meeting.
This year 2025 Southeastern GSA meeting was held by James Madison University in Harrisonburg VA and it brought out a strong Virginia contingency. Of course the host JMU came out strong with many great faculty and student presentations as well as Virginia Tech. But some of our smaller universities such as College of William and Mary and Washington and Lee University came through with great research, students, and energy.
Justin Richardson co-chaired a Biogeochemistry session with Jim Kaste (William and Mary) and Margaret Anne hinkle (Washington and Lee). There was a great oral session ranging from Miocene stable isotope signatures to seawater geochemistry.
Four UVA undergraduates working with Justin Richardson presented their work on Lake Anna mine and watershed geochemistry, carbon storage at Morven, and comparing nutrient cycling in VA with New England.
It was a great session and another fun time for record books!
