The 2023 ASA, CSSA & SSSA International Annual Meeting in St. Louis Missouri was a fantastic meeting as per usual. It was one of the larger meetings in recent history and brought in scientists that usually attended other scientific conferences.
I hosted a symposium on using fast weathering minerals to help reduce CO2 in the atmosphere while improving soil health characteristics.
The “Humans Affecting and Leveraging Mineral Weathering Poster” co-convened by Brad Sutton, Christopher Shephard, and myself.
We had a wonderful line of speakers:
Noah Planavsky, Earth & Planetary Sciences, Yale University
Salvatore Calabrese, Biological and Agricultural Engineering, Texas A&M University
Stephanie Grand, Institute of Earth Surface Dynamics, University of Lausanne
In addition to the symposium and session, I had former undergraduate researcher Marissa Hanley present her poster and PhD candidate Alexandrea Rice present her poster.
I also gave two presentations, the first on cantatas I arranged from George Borst’s lyrics and the second on the application of rock dust at two organic farms in New England.
One of the most fun parts about attending a conference are seeing the sights and specialties of a city. St. Louis is host to amazing architecture that extends far beyond the arch. There are amazing stone buildings adorned with intricate embellishments. Moreover, there were fantastic natural and historic beauty.
The Cahokia mounds are quite the set of Mississippian societies coming together to build earthern mounds that push upwards to the sky. All without modern tools, just human power!
